Day Fifty Two City

Today I was back walking streets that skirted around the edge of the CBD.  I walked 11 streets today.

652. Logan Street
653. Royal Terrace
654. London Street
655. Stoutgate
656. Haddon Place
657. Scotland Street
658. Constitution Street
659. Heriot Row
660. Pitt Street
661. Elder Street
662. Cobden Street

I walked Haddon Place and Scotland Street which are two streets off London Street that are quite steep and with both streets, I needed to walk down then back up.

Most of the houses on these inner city streets are flats with multiple cars meaning there is very little parking.  I guess that one of the benefits of living so close to the main shopping area is that you wouldn't need to use your car much as you can walk to the supermarket and shops easily.

The streets that I was walking today seemed to keep getting steeper.  Constitution Street is one of those particularly steep streets.  Anyone that lives on this street would get a great workout walking up it each day.

One of the benefits of living on these steep streets are the views.  The residents are rewarded with great views looking over the taller buildings of the city and out to the harbour and hills of Waverley.

The views on my walk today have been quite extensive as I walked Heriot Row which looked out towards Opoho and Mt Cargill.

One of the historic houses in Dunedin is Olveston which was built in  1905 for a wealthy merchant and his family.  The family lived in the house from 1906 until 1966.  The house was gifted to the city of Dunedin and is open to the public.  Olveston has been kept as a time capsule where little has been changed from when the family lived in the house.  Unfortunately for me, the house and grounds were shut for the night so I was unable to get any closer.

One of the more interesting things I walked past today was this triangle house.  It is an unusual shape with the house taking up the whole section. I think that it be would be interesting to have the room on the corner.

During my walk today I walked past some more great street art.  The most impressive piece of street art that I passed is on a wall of the old St George jam factory on London Street.

Otago Harbour Cycleway 30 October 2023

With my sister in town, it seemed a shame to waste a calm, sunny day so the two of us hopped on a bike each to enjoy the recently opened 32k...
