A challenge for 2021 - Explore Dunedin on foot

A challenge is a good way to keep motivated and my challenge for 2021 is to walk explore my hometown of Dunedin on foot.  To do this I have decided to walk every street in Dunedin and will write this blog as a record of my journey.

Deciding to walk every street in Dunedin was the easy part, how to do it took a little more thought and preparation.  There are around 1500 streets in Dunedin and how best to keep track of which streets I have walked was the most obvious problem.  I decided the simplest solution is to buy a Dunedin street map and colour the streets in as I walk them.  Where to start was my next problem, I thought the easiest solution is to pick a street/area and start walking.

Some other decisions that I needed to make are:

  1. Walking on one side of the footpath is enough to say that I have walked the street.
  2. Walking on sealed roads only
  3. Private streets/right of ways are not included
  4. Mosgiel and Waitati are included
Some of these decisions may need to be revisited but for now, they are a good start.

I'd be happy to join you doing the Mosgiel streets!

With my sister in town, it seemed a shame to waste a calm, sunny day so the two of us hopped on a bike each to enjoy the recently opened 32k...
